The America First Energy Project here to bring you our perspective and matters we know are important for the community, decision makers, and economy of a strong, energy-independent state.

Washington Mardi Gras: Party with a Purpose & Louisiana Energy Takes Center Stage

The Annual Washington Mardi Gras once again proved it is far more than a celebration of Louisiana culture, it is truly a party with a purpose. The event brings together Louisiana’s federal delegation, state and local leaders, industry executives, and community stakeholders in our nation’s capital to strengthen relationships, align priorities, and advance policies that drive economic growth. With energy, infrastructure, and development at the forefront of national discussions, this year’s gathering created a powerful platform for meaningful engagement and strategic collaboration.

America First Energy Project Louisiana (AFEPL) was proud to be front and center throughout the week, connecting directly with decision makers and energy stakeholders from across the state and country. AFEPL sponsored GSREIA’s Friday policy panel, “Louisiana Load Growth & Energy Demand: Meeting the Moment,” one of the most substantive energy conversations of the weekend. The session opened with Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr., followed by a dynamic panel moderated by Millard Mule and featuring FERC Commissioner David LaCerte, LPSC Commissioner Davante Lewis, and Entergy’s Larry Hand, with additional insights from representatives of Governor Landry’s Office, Amazon Web Services, and Senator Cassidy’s team. The discussion highlighted Louisiana’s readiness and thought leadership in meeting rapidly increasing energy demand.

Beyond the panel, AFEPL held productive one-on-one meetings with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy to discuss reliability, affordability, and the generation capacity needed to support continued investment and job growth. The strong presence of state leadership—including Governor Jeff Landry, Senate President Cameron Henry, and Speaker Phillip DeVillier—reinforced a unified, proactive approach to positioning Louisiana as a national energy leader.

AFEPL also attended the Washington Mardi Gras Economic Development Luncheon, “Fueling the Revolution,” featuring keynote remarks from Governor Landry and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, alongside Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Scalise, Senators Cassidy and Kennedy, and members of the Louisiana congressional delegation. The message was clear: Louisiana is uniquely positioned to power America’s next chapter of energy and industrial growth. By pairing relationship-building with substantive policy dialogue, AFEPL continues to keep Louisiana’s energy priorities front and center and help drive long-term prosperity for communities across the state.

WHAT WE READ

Poll shows Republicans support solar, especially American-made panels

Think Geo

A recent survey found that a majority of Republican voters support solar energy, especially when panels are made in the United States, reflecting broader interest in energy independence and affordability among right-leaning voters. Support for utility-scale solar rises sharply if American-made panels are used, challenging assumptions about partisan opposition to renewables and suggesting solar could build broader bipartisan backing.
