Happy Friday!

August 8th, 2025

The America First Energy Project here to bring you our perspective and matters we know are important for the community, decision makers, and economy of a strong, energy-independent state.

Louisiana Native Nominated for the FERC

Louisiana is taking center stage in national energy policy. President Donald Trump has nominated David LaCerte, a Louisiana native and veteran public servant, to join the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)—the federal agency that oversees power generation across the U.S.

LaCerte, a Marine Corps veteran, served as Louisiana’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs under Gov. Bobby Jindal and later practiced law in New Orleans. A graduate of Nicholls State and LSU Law, he went on to serve in the Trump administration as White House liaison to the U.S. Office for Personnel Management, work on the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, and most recently focus on energy litigation with a Houston law firm.

If confirmed, LaCerte’s appointment would give Republicans a majority on FERC, shaping decisions on energy development and infrastructure that will impact Louisiana and the nation for years to come. With his Louisiana roots, his voice could help ensure our state’s energy interests remain front and center at the federal level.

FROM THE ROAD

This week America First Energy Project Louisiana attended the Ouachita Police Jury Meeting in Monroe, Louisiana and visited Concordia Parish officials in Vidalia, Louisiana. We had great conversations with members of the Police Jury in Ouachita as they considered amendments to their Solar siting ordinance.

WHAT WE READ

GOP senators place holds on Trump Treasury nominees in renewable energy standoff

– Politico

“Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and John Curtis (R-Utah) have placed holds on three of President Donald Trump’s nominees to the Treasury Department, a significant escalation of the battle between key Republican lawmakers and the administration over renewable energy tax breaks in the sprawling megalaw.

The actions follow a so-far unsuccessful effort by a handful of Senate Republicans to meet with Treasury Department officials to express their unhappiness with the agency’s expected clampdown on wind and solar projects’ use of the tax credits. Trump ordered the restrictions in an executive order issued days after Congress enacted the law July 3 — much to the dismay of the senators whose yes votes had been crucial to getting the president’s top legislative priority through the Senate.”
