Louisiana is taking center stage in national energy policy. President Donald Trump has nominated David LaCerte, a Louisiana native and veteran public servant, to join the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)—the federal agency that oversees power generation across the U.S.
LaCerte, a Marine Corps veteran, served as Louisiana’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs under Gov. Bobby Jindal and later practiced law in New Orleans. A graduate of Nicholls State and LSU Law, he went on to serve in the Trump administration as White House liaison to the U.S. Office for Personnel Management, work on the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, and most recently focus on energy litigation with a Houston law firm.
If confirmed, LaCerte’s appointment would give Republicans a majority on FERC, shaping decisions on energy development and infrastructure that will impact Louisiana and the nation for years to come. With his Louisiana roots, his voice could help ensure our state’s energy interests remain front and center at the federal level. |
